Show Season 2011
We started showing our flock for the first time last year but we have shown more this year participating at Great Harwood, Gargrave and Malham shows and we also took some sheep to the Skipton Sale again this year.
Great Harwood
First this year was a very wet Great Harwood, where we took 5 sheep, but the trailer was quite full as we had to take all the lambs as well with it being so early!
We enjoyed success with our ram lamb Hockey Sticks who came 2nd and a home bred ewe who also stood 2nd. Hannah and Ellie took out their little lambs but Ellie definitely had the easier job leading round our pet lamb who didn't make any noise, whilst all the others were shouting for their mothers!

Gargrave
Then in early August we took sheep to our Young Farmers show and then a week later we took 5 sheep to Gargrave show where we were yet again under Gavin's watchful eye. Van Der Sa stood 3rd, Hockey Sticks was 2nd, our shearling was 3rd and the success of the day was with our aged ewe who won her class. She then went on to become reserve champion behind Geoff Wood who won the championship with his shearling ewe.
Malham show
There were no Jacob classes at Malham but we took Van Der Sa and our Gargrave reserve champion to compete in the Rare and Native Breed classes. The tup stood third and we also had a pair of shearling ewes who came second in the Pair of Breeding Ewes, against Mules and Blue Faced Leicesters, which we were very pleased with.
Skipton Show and Sale
The last event of the year was Skipton Show and Sale in September. We took seven sheep and were very happy with how they sold. We took our aged ewe into the show and came third and our shearling tup, Jolly Fudge, who also stood third. It was a fantastic day for everyone with a great trade, especially for shearling ewes.
Show season 2012
We haven't done as much showing this year due to other arrangements and the weather.
Our first show was Coniston Cold Young Farmers' show where there are no Jacob classes but our sheep are entered in the horned sheep classes. Our pairs of ewes and shearlings both stood 2nd and our pair of gimmer lambs came 3rd. Van Der Sa and Good Time were 1st and 2nd respectively and Van Der Sa went on to become reserve sheep champion overall.
Next came Gargrave where we were 3rd, 3rd, 4th and 2nd with our ram lamb, Jolly Peter; our ewe; our gimmer lamb and our group of three in that order. Well done to Kevin Gaskell who had a successful day and took champion.
Finally was the Skipton Show and Sale where we took two shearling ewes and a pen of 4 store lambs. We didnt show the shearlings as they, like most of our sheep, weren't very quiet but our wether lambs were judged and we got a 1st prize. Trade was down from last year but our we were happy with how our sheep sold.
